APPRAISER: Well, this figurine, as you may already know is an antique English Staffordshire figurine.
It's very much similar to the type that was made by a man named Obadiah Sherratt.
And this is a fairly early one.
This one probably dates somewhere between 1800, 1830.
The way we can tell that it's a much older one than the ones that we normally see is, uh, the hollow bottom, which is not the only clue, but the hollow bottom and the glaze is a slightly blue color, and that's a good sign for age.
Another good thing that, that shows us that it's really old is the color it's painted all over, front and back, in wonderful, bright exciting colors.
The later ones, which were much cheaper, much more cheaply produced, had very little color, and they were very, very clunky and primitive.
And although this is kind of primitive, it has a lot of excitement and, uh, vibrancy.
GUEST: Mmm.
APPRAISER: Uh, and the condition is one of the most exciting things about it.
Because these were very inexpensive when they were new, for the most part, people didn't take care of them.
The heads got broken off, the hats got chipped, the-the hands were broken.
And this one's in really good condition.
Most Staffordshire figurines are worth somewhere between $200, $500.
Some of the times that they're really large, they'll be worth more than that.
This one is quite small, but because of the, uh, the great, uh, colors, the interesting subject matter, the flowers in the hat, I would say that this is probably worth somewhere between $1,000 and $1,200, which is really quite a lot for that sort of thing.
GUEST: Mmhm.
APPRAISER: And something that we don't get to see that often here in Texas, it doesn't show up very often.
GUEST: (chuckles)
