About the Show
A landmark, three-part series made in conjunction with the BBC, Kingdoms of the Sky reveals the extraordinary animals and remarkable people who make a home on the iconic mountain ranges of the world. Breathtaking photography takes viewers through three scenic, episodic voyages across the Himalayas, Rockies and Andes.
Part 1 | Rockies
Explore the people and wildlife of the Rockies, from wolverines to wingsuit flyers.
The Rockies are the great temperate mountain range of the world, and the weather here can change on a dime. Timing is everything, and to thrive here, both animals and people must understand these wild mountains and pick their moment. This episode takes us on a journey from the depths of winter to the heat of summer, showing how both animals and people have adapted to these ever-changing mountains.
Part 2 | Himalaya
Visit the people and wildlife of the Himalaya – the highest mountain range on earth.
The Himalaya is the highest mountain range on earth. Here, the air is the thinnest, the wind is the strongest, and the storms are the fiercest. Yet, extraordinary animals and remarkable creatures make a home here. The higher you climb, the tougher it gets. This film travels up in altitude, showing how the resourceful people and animals of the Himalayan mountains survive.
Part 3 | Andes
See the people and wildlife of the world's longest mountain range- the Andes.
The Andes is the longest mountain range in the world and is home to extraordinary animals and remarkable people. There are dozens of hidden worlds in the Andes, from the driest desert in the world to cloud forests teaming with life, and from the flattest place on Earth to vertical peaks towering over twenty thousand feet. Watch as this film follows Glorioso Albeneida, a bus driver that maneuvers his old bus down a narrow road on a steep gorge; as rock climbers Ivan and Fuco attempt to scale a giant tower of granite- La Esfinge- in the Paron Valley of Peru; and as Diuca finches, the only glacier-nesting birds in the world, raise their young on the Quelccaya glacier.
